Rear Main Seal with Cover, BMW - E60 545i/550i, E63 645i/650i, E65 745i/750i, X5 4.8i

Engine leaks on the N62 V8 used in the E60 545i/550i, E63 645ci/650i, E65 745i/750i, and X5 4.4i/4.8is can come from a number of places. But if you see a leak between the engine block, oil pan, and transmission it's going to be from the oil pan gasket or the rear main seal. The rear main seal keeps the oil and pressure contained at the back of the engine block around the back of the crankshaft. But it's not uncommon for the seal to break and cause an oil leak. Replacement requires removing the transmission and flywheel so consider all of the other parts that will be required.
